Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors Privacy Policy

The Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors is bound by the Canadian Federal Government’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

Consent from members is required where personal information is used for commercial activities. The personal information the CIQS collects, uses, discloses and retains for Regulatory purposes does not require consent.

Collection of Personal Information:

The CIQS and its affiliated associations are committed to protecting the privacy of members including security of personal data. This data is restricted to CIQS and its affiliated associations use only. Member’s personal information is stored in the association’s database and individual member’s files. CIQS and its affiliated associations collect no personal information about you unless you choose to provide that information to us. The information may be modified or deleted at the member’s discretion.

How CIQS uses Personal Information:

CIQS and its affiliated associations collects personal information on a voluntary basis to supply the association with information for membership renewal purposes, send the Institute’s journal The Construction Economist and to inform members of activities and events which may be of interest to them. The information provided on our membership application form such as education, experience, references, etc. is used for certification purpose and is restricted to CIQS and affiliated association use only. Member’s personal information is stored in the association’s database and individual member’s files.

What Information is Collected?

Information such as member’s name, residence address, telephone number, fax number, email address and business address, telephone number, fax number and email address are collected by the CIQS and its affiliated associations.

By becoming a member or by requesting information or registering for events or courses offered by CIQS and its affiliated associations you are giving CIQS and its affiliated associations permission to contact you by way of the information you provide. The CIQS and affiliated associations does not sell or trade the mailing list of members.

Disclosure

The CIQS uses a number of agencies that may, in the course of their duties, have limited access to personal information we hold. These include:

• CIQS webmaster
• Mailing house for The Construction Economist
• Database management software supplier

We restrict their access to any personal information we hold as much as is reasonably possible. We also have their assurance that they follow appropriate privacy principles.

The CIQS has designated the Executive Director who is accountable for the CIQS’s compliance. Concerns related to the CIQS’ compliance should be directed to:

This policy also governs the following affiliated associations – the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Quantity Surveyors, the Nova Scotia Association of Quantity Surveyors and the Ontario Institute of Quantity Surveyors. (Alberta, British Columbia and Quebec have their own provincial privacy acts and privacy policies).
